JOBS FOR 19 YEAR OLDS

Updated on February 4, 2013

The Unemployment Rate Remains at 8% Or Higher

Everyone knows the economy is awful right now and there is no one more aware of it than young workers. If you are 18 or 19 years old and recently out of high school, you are one of the ones caught in this seemingly neverending job search.

SnagAJob.com specializes in part time jobs and hourly jobs

This is the best online job source for older teens:

SnagAJob.com - (FREE)

You can start your job search at SnagAJob but please don't sign up unless you are serious about finding a job. Lots of teenagers really need jobs right now and they only want people who are serious to sign up.

Monster.com – (Also FREE)

You can look for jobs at either one of those sites. Many employers find their new hires online so it is best if you have a resume and submit it there.

For some time now, the national unemployment rate has been around 10% and it shows no signs of getting better. The bad part is that is it probably really higher than that because there are many people who have given up looking and are never counted. Additionally, there are thousands of people who can only find part time jobs when in fact they need full time work. All those people are counted as "employed" when in fact they really are hurting like all the other unemployed folks.

19 Year Olds Need Jobs Now

Jobs for 19 year olds are usually going to be entry level in nature and this is because people of that age group usually have very little work experience to offer employers. Even if a 19 year old is lucky to find work, they will not be making very much and may be one of the first ones to be laid off if they company falls on hard times.

In this economy, 18 and 19 year olds are having an especially tough time finding jobs because many seasoned workers are willingly taking the lower paying jobs that might ordinarily go to these younger workers in normal times. Companies face difficult choices in who to hire and they prdictably tend to hire older workers who have more experience and families to feed. This makes olders teens the ones to be left out in the cold.

College Is Not Always An Option

Going to college is not an option for everyone and some younger workers just want to leave high school and get right to working and making money. Now that jobs for 19 year olds are so hard to find, many are thinking of going back to school or to college for the first time. However, many still just can't afford it with tuition and textbook costs being so high. These recent high school graduates are caught in a place where they can't find a job and can't afford school either.

This bad economy might go on for years and this means a bleak outlook for many youngsters just coming into the workforce. Eighteen and nineteen year olds need to get jobs and start on their way up the corporate ladder all the while learning how to save money for their future. Unfortunately, for many older teens, it looks like this may not happen for a while.
